“Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:1-3
It can be extremely difficult to share the Good News with those around us. Often, the fear of rejection and confrontation keeps us silent before those who so desperately need Jesus’ gift of Salvation. John 3:1-3 shows us the fearlessness of Jesus when speaking to someone who is in need of God’s grace. I can’t help but smile a little when I read Jesus’ initial response to this leader of the Jews, Nicodemus. Instead of responding with, “You are correct, now go tell everyone about the wonderful things I have done in the name of God!”, Jesus dives straight into the most important question a person can ask themselves.
Have I, _______, been born again?
In other words, have you been made new by the power of the Holy Spirit? Are you still a slave to sin or are you now a Child of God? 1 John 4:15 says, “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”
Let us be sure that God abides in us and let us ask God for the courage that Jesus demonstrated.
